That is the reason for this painting on this wall. This wall is the third level of my self-awareness. I’m aware that I have a self as I see it, but I don’t always put it in my head. I think it would be nice to be able to see myself in a mirror a few times a week so I can see where I’ve been and know that I’m still me.
Stanton likes to paint his self-awareness into his paintings so I hope I can do the same. I dont have a mirror, but Im pretty sure that I’ve seen myself in a mirror at least once since I had the first tattoo. There are a lot of “what is wrong”s in my life that I can point to in a mirror, but I also think its nice to know that I’m not the only one having these problems.
The most important thing about painting is that you can paint yourself. The art of painting makes us understand that we have to paint ourselves at the same time.
Well said, Scott. I am constantly amazed by the creativity of my fellow artists. It’s truly humbling and inspiring, especially to know that in my art, I’ve created a canvas that can be used to create a world for any one of us to live in.
Speaking of creativity, I love how many of our artists are so willing to go on the record about the different styles they have in their work. This seems to be a trend that I am starting to see more in the industry. The more I am seeing this, the more I am interested to learn more about it. There is a lot of discussion online about what this means for the artists.
That’s exactly what it means for our artists. It means that they are creative beings. It means that they have the ability to create a world with their unique styles. We need to stop viewing art as just another way to produce an image. We need to learn from our artists that creativity is always more than just the expression of a personal vision, it is a key component of what it is to be a creative being.
